Dues Deductibility
You IIASD dues are not deductible as a charitable contribution, but may be deductible as an ordinary and necessary business expense. This calculator does not constitute financial advice. Please consult your tax professional for specific guidance for your agency.
Dues Deductibility Calculator
Estimate your tax-deductible IIASD membership dues
How is this calculated?
Because a portion of dues supports lobbying, that portion is not tax-deductible. IIABA (national) estimates 16.2% lobbying-related (83.8% deductible). IIASD estimates 10% lobbying-related (90% deductible).
Legislative & PAC Update
As the 2026 session of the South Dakota Legislature is gearing up, we wanted to remind members of the importance of our legislative advocacy.
First, please consider increasing your support for our state political action committee (IPAC). Currently, member agencies are asked to voluntarily contribute $250 when paying membership dues. Almost every agency does contribute, but just a gentle reminder that you can contribute corporate and individual contributions to IPAC. Our two-year election cycle remains about $60,000 raised. In order to maximize our ability to influence South Dakota insurance policy, our PAC should be around $100,000 per two-year cycle. Doing so will place us in the top 10 largest PAC’s in South Dakota. Please send a personal or agency check to: IIASD-IPAC; 305 Island Dr., Fort Pierre, SD 57532.
Second, please consider joining us for our annual legislative reception on February 10th in Pierre from 4 to 8 p.m. at the St. Charles Lounge. More information can be found on our events tab on our website or by clicking this link: https://iiasd.org/2025/06/09/legislative-reception/ By joining us, your state legislators see our member engagement and can directly hear from you on the issues of concern to your business and customers.
Finally, consider participating in our Legislative Committee. This member committee advises staff on legislative positions on bills before the general assembly. By providing us input on how and why we should support or oppose legislation, you help us better advocate for the independent agent channel in South Dakota. This group also provides initial advisory guidance on political contributions from IPAC.
