Dan Johnson
Risty Benefits

Sioux Falls has been my home for 40 years now, but my story begins on a farm outside Lake Preston, South Dakota. Those early years and long hours on the farm taught me the value of hard work, integrity, and community—principles that have guided every step of my personal and professional life.
After attending Dakota State College, I moved to Sioux Falls in the spring of 1985. I’ve been blessed with a wonderful wife, Jeannie, and together we raised three daughters. After 28 years of parenting, we’re enjoying life as empty nesters and doing our best not to spoil our three grandchildren (though we don’t always succeed).
My career has taken me through meaningful service in law enforcement, leadership as Executive Director at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery, and now to my current role as a Principal at Risty Benefits. I’m a graduate of Leadership Sioux Falls and have been honored to serve my community in many ways—chairing a credit union board, participating in civic and city organizations, serving on my church’s finance council, and a member the Bishop O’Gorman Catholic School Board.
I am currently the State Deputy for the South Dakota Knights of Columbus, an organization close to my heart and rooted deeply in faith, service, and fraternity.
And for those who know me well—yes, I never turn down a good cigar.
