IIASD is your Voice at the capitol

One of the primary duties of the Independent Insurance Agents of South Dakota is to advocate for our members at the Statehouse in Pierre. Most insurance products are regulated at the state level.
During South Dakota’s annual legislative session, we are actively involved in monitoring and speaking for the insurance marketplace. Our member-comprised Legislative Committee helps guide our advocacy.
South Dakota’s Division of Insurance oversees agent/agency licensing, product approvals, domestic carrier financial oversight and investigations of wrong-doing amongst other duties. We work closely with the Division to ensure South Dakota’s insurance marketplace maintains a consistent and efficient standard of excellence.
See What we’re tracking
With new bills dropping every day, it can be difficult to keep up. So, we created a legislative tracker that allows you to track insurance-related bills in real time.
You can view analysis, cross-state research, and see what each bill means for your agency.
IPAC
One additional resource we rely on is our Insurance Political Action Committee (IPAC). This is comprised of voluntary member contributions (agency or individual). These dollars are used to support members of the legislature who are allies in ensuring we have a competitive marketplace for both consumers and the insurance industry. We encourage, but do not require, all members to support IPAC.
Our national organization, Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (Big I) also advocate for our members at the Federal level. One important component of their advocacy is INSURPAC. Generally, agencies cannot contribute directly to INSURPAC, but individual members are encouraged to contribute, or if you would like to make corporate contributions, we suggest you speak with a member of our national organization to take proper actions.
