Legislative Reception 2026

Each legislative session, we’re at the Capitol working to ensure independent agents have a voice in the laws that shape your businesses. From monitoring bills to meeting with lawmakers, we’re there to make sure your perspective is part of every discussion that impacts how you serve your clients.

The Legislative Reception is where that work comes full circle—when we show up, we remind legislators that we’re not just talking about policy, we’re talking about the real-world effects on South Dakota agents, businesses, and communities. We can’t afford to sit on the sidelines—we belong in the conversation.

If you need a refresher on the workings of the legislature, here’s some great information.

What to Expect

The Reception | February 10th @ 5pm, St. Charles Lounge, Pierre

If it’s your first time attending the Legislative Reception, you’re going to love it!

The St. Charles Lounge in Pierre. It’s right down the street from the Capitol so it’s a great location for legislators to swing by when they’re done for the day.

This is the perfect time to visit with lawmakers and make sure your voice as an independent agent is heard.

The Division of Insurance | february 11th, TBD, DOI Office

Each year, the Division of Insurance is kind enough to host us at their office for a rundown of who they are, what they do, and what may be on the horizon for insurance regulation.

We typically visit with them the morning after the reception.

The decisions made at the DOI have a huge effect on the industry and it’s great for us to get some facetime with them.

The Statehouse | February 11th, TBD, State Capitol

Time to see how the sausage is made!

After visiting with the Division of Insurance, we can head to the Capitol. Most insurance legislation comes through the Commerce & Energy committee, which meets daily at 10am. These committee meetings are open to the public, and space permitting, we might catch consideration of an insurance bill.
